In case you didn't know, October is Breast Cancer Awareness month. Tons of websites and blogs worldwide are going pink for the entire month of October; meaning that the owners of these sites and blogs will try to incorporate pink into their websites somehow. I am proud to say that my blog is one of those blogs :) There is always some way to support a cause, nothing is too small!
Facts and Statistics:
About 1 in every 8 women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. After lung cancer, breast cancer is the second leading cause of death of women ages 35-54. The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2009, approximately 192,370 women will be diagnosed with invasive breast cancer and approximately 40,610 will die. Only 5% to 10% of breast cancers occur in women with a clearly defined genetic predisposition for the disease. The majority of breast cancer cases are "sporadic," meaning there is no direct family history of the disease. The risk for developing breast cancer increases as a woman ages. (SOURCE)
I don't know anyone directly who has be diagnosed with breast cancer, but like the facts say, it can happen to any woman. It is so important to arm yourself with facts and knowledge and to remain as healthy as possible. The best way to protect yourself from whats out their is to know whats out there.
Go pink this October, show your support, and save the tatas!
